Week 8 – The Girls are back in Town!

Everyone did a great job submitting picks to my other email address! Please continue to do so or start this week if you didn’t… ryhuey@gmail.com

One of my favorite songs is the Thin Lizzy classic, “The Boys are back in Town”. Maybe I should have kept this to myself. One thing is for certain, out of the top 3 effeminate QBs (Sanchez, Romo, and Vick… in that order), Sanchez appears to be the only one currently dating his coach. This doesn’t mean that Romo hasn’t tried to pursue intimate relations with any coaching staff… just that Jerry hasn’t given the final order down yet. Deliver us from Eva!

Paul… it’s clear that you’re just along for the ride in Carrie’s Skinnebago (ha). However, at this point I’m more embarrassed for Carrie and the rest of the family. Your riding in a lonely back seat after a big dive on Arizona that landed you with 19 points. Carrie and Art… get your peeps straight!

We do have a new fearful leader… Peter… rah! We hope you’re doing well in NYC, but need you to tone in down a bit with your pool consistency thus far. Maybe start forgetting to turn your sheet in or something…

Doug started his typical mid-season surge with the high score this week. If only he can close this year… we believe in you Doug… you’re always so close!! Good luck to everyone and get your picks in by Thursday!

Week 7 – The Cowardly Lions

Before we get into this week’s rap (diggity check)… if you can please start sending your picks to me @ ryhuey@gmail.com that would be excellent and make life a little easier. Since I’m the score keeper, making my life easier is in your best interest!

The Lions suck… they were the worst team in their division coming into Monday night and nothing’s changed. I’m not sure how anyone saw this one differently… two marginal victories against the Rams and Eagles?? No ball security.

Speaking of neutered lions looking for an answer… Lee didn’t spend enough time consulting the wizard this week. You should probably start letting some other folks fail… maybe just settle for mediocrity for a bit. It’s like the old children’s fable of the famous rapper, Hingle McCringleberry… take your time when busting a rhyme because like a subprime that will leave some without a dime earning one’s keep while performing as a mime… making bad picks is a much worse crime.

It was a pretty solid week for everyone else, but the Don did just a tad better than all of us. I’m thinking that Lesley may have provided a little professional assistance as this comes as a bit of a shocker after last week. I received an email rant from her… something about a family disgrace… you now have to watch games on the little TV in the playroom… no more football talk until you can prove your worthiness… I stopped reading after a while. Hopefully you can bank this one as redemption and be allowed back into the circle of trust!

Good luck this week and get them in by Thursday… to other email address please!

Week 6 – Cry Me A Rivers

It’s not so much that Phillip Rivers let you Charger pickers down with his inability to do anything but throw completions to the Broncos in the 2nd half… the real mistake was that you were willing to gamble against greatness (you ‘gag’ged yourselves… ha!). Peyton makes everyone around him work harder… Rivers goes home and manufactures babies… Romo is proficient at golf. Cue Deniece Williams “Let’s Hear It for the Boy”… I’m not sure why, but it just sounds right.

All the usual suspects are floating around in the top 10… with 3 exceptions. Art isn’t posting spectacular numbers, but he seems to have a magnetosphere around him in that anyone who comes close is bound to do worse in subsequent weeks. Carrie is just unusual… in a good way :). And Chavkin… I’m not really sure what to make of his high posting but I do know he’s a big Footloose fan (I only like the Kevin Bacon one, but he also likes the latest Kenny Wormald version). I guess it’s all about adaptation… nice work Peter!

Don Corleone… not good. I believe you are pretty familiar with how the pool works, but Rob offered some personal assistance if you’re still struggling with the scoring and pick sheets. It all went downhill with the Steelers!!

Picks are due by Thursday… good luck and get them in! Also, if you have not paid up… it’s interest time!

Week 5 – Finkle is Cundiff… Cundiff is Finkle

We like to feature kickers at least once a year (Rob really wants to work in punters as well), and since we have some Skins fans this season… I’ve got just the goat. Oh gosh gee golly, Billy! Billy’s success rate is about on par with Sanchez’s completion percentage. This is your only job… how do you still have one?

Billy has been a loser for a few weeks now… so has Lee! Back to back low scores is something special. Last week you were no doubt under the influence of your Tiawanese house guest, but you really felt good about picking the Jets on Monday night? One more week of this shit and there will be an intervention against your destructive decisions. Paging Dr. Phil…

On the positive, my awesome mom-in-law posted the high score of the week. She’s really just fantastic in general… and very beautiful! Nice work Danita! I can’t make any guarantees on what spot you’ll be in at the end of the year (without proper payment at least), but I feel pretty confident that it will be ahead of Trey.

We had an easy week with the Cowgirls on a bye… now they’re back to funk things up again. Good luck and get your picks in by Thursday!

Week 4 – Pickled by Peppered Picks

What was setting up to be a fantastic week, ended with almost a half dozen interceptions by “one of the greatest” (according to Deven)… Tony Romo. All elite QBs get benched in favor of Kyle Orton at some point in their careers, right? I really wanted to focus on Sanchez and the Golden Gate goose egg the Jets posted, but even his TD-INT ratio is better than Romo’s this season. Embarrassing.

Bob and the Frenchman knew this would happen… why expect anything less from the Cowboys, at home, and on Monday night. Ray is even the biggest Cowboy fan in the pool and was still smart enough to bet against them. Whereas Bob just knew they would eff things up. Nicely done.

This was a relatively easy week, so I’m not exactly sure how Lee posted a 27.  The message on his email was rather cryptic, but using our special Lee decoder glasses, we deciphered it as something to do with letting a small Peruvian male “hit dat sheet”.  It sounds pretty open ended, but we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt that he let his exchange student give the pool a shot on his behalf this week. A lesson in American Futbol… Lee is a great humanitarian!

Picks sheets are posted and due by Thursday. Good luck this week… I think Jerry Jones is going to offer the Jets a trade for Tebow.

Week 3 – Touchdown M.D. Jennings!

I agree with the call… if M.D. Jennings played for Seattle, no doubt it was a touchdown. From now on the new strategy is to analyze who will be officiating each game; not the matchup.

In addition to being a sad thing to witness for the sport, last night was incredibly sad stuff for Trey (and myself). This is the first time in pool history that anyone has posted a negative score during the regular season. So…. a…. yea…. congrats! We’ll all understand if you don’t want to submit anything this week. I’ll take my 8 realizing that sometimes you must move backwards in order to move forwards.

For those of you who picked Seattle… you should feel dirty! You know the part in The Karate Kid (the real one… not the one with Jaden Smith) where Kreese tells Johnny Lawrence to “sweep the leg” of Daniel Larusso after the other dude intentionally hurts Larusso’s leg in the previous tournament match? Well, what happened in the last few minutes of the game last night is even worse and now we have to wait a week to crane kick all your asses. I do give Chavkin some credit for having a relatively good week, but you can’t stop the impending crane. Double picture this week since this one makes me smile.

On to another great one… Good luck and get them in on Thursday!

Week 2 – Patsies

This week, we were all victims of at least two things: (1) poor officiating (a$$ clowns) that made last night’s game almost unwatchable and (2) the Patriots not being very Patriot-like. Arizona is quite the powerhouse. It’s also safe to say that Dallas will continue to be that unpredictable team we’ve all grown to love so much… the one that will burn you one way or the other each and every week.

Bill Hytree got a little sommin sommin extra this week…  only 6 games right along with a -16 by betting big on the Broncos. So if anyone is feeling badly about their poor score, just remember how much worse it could have been!

On the flip side, Faulkner is having a solid season and really trying to create some separation. He’s always been a lone wolf and is submitting his weekly picks this year with a lot of bravado (this is the code word we use to describe the extra $2/week he pays). It was better than, code: “keep me in the top 4”. In seriousness… nice work Dave!

Pick sheets are posted… good luck and get them in by Thursday!!

Week 1 – Don’t Clunk Your Dunk

Week one is done! A sigh of relief with a touch of anticipation for week 2 and a subtle hint of sadness that we only have 20 more weeks of the pool… never enough! Before any additional useless commentary, a couple reminders:

1. Hint: There’s a great Thursday night match-up this week. What does this mean? Hmmm… how about everyone get all their picks in before it starts on Thursday. Not rocket science peeps.

2. When you submit your picks this week, be sure to include in the email who you want for AFC & NFC SB teams. It always amazing me that people refuse to submit these or pick like two AFC teams. We like these people. If you don’t want to look like a fool… abra-ca-dabra, julio.

3. Get your money in b*^$h. If you have already… thanks :).

Oh Vern…

http://youtu.be/7gA5fOHoHZw

Call it a nube move, but Jeff also really clunked his dunk this week. The wager game was as gimme as they get and a solid 2 point gamble on the clear favorite rewarded you with… 4! Wow… nice one. The good news is that you can only move up!

After reading several pages personally written by Carie on reasons why Washington is sooooo great, maybe she isn’t as crazy as I still think. A very nice way to start the season for you and the Skins! You guys can be taken more seriously now that a dude named Sexy Rexy isn’t your QB.

Lee… you’re doing well. You made it to week 2 last year before you stopped submitting… let’s go for 3 this season! Good luck to everyone and don’t forget to get all your sheet together by Thursday night… pick sheets are posted and the main standings page has been updated!

Week 1 Pick Sheet Posted

The pick sheet has been posted for the first week!! Please complete and email them back before the start of the game on Wednesday, 9/5. If your name did not make it on the drop down list on this pick sheet, don’t cry… just leave it blank this week and we’ll make sure to have everyone on there by week 2. Also, please make sure to get your fees in by week 3. And Keith… the Dolphins are accepting any walk on for wide receiver try outs if you’re interested in a career change.

Yes… It’s Time!!

Buenos dias! Bienvenidos a la piscina de fútbol!! I know I’m behind schedule but a little thing called ‘work’ has been a recent interruption. However, all your emails imploring us to start up the festivities were extremely touching… Ray French even mailed a zip lock bag filled with water (me thinks), labeled “tears of happiness”. Ok… he didn’t really do that, but it’s a very creepy yet excellent idea nonetheless.

Spanish appreciation month is my favorite time in the NFL. It’s a time when we celebrate Mark Sanchez, J-Lo, and maybe the one other guy who has Mexican parents by airing a bunch of Spanish commercials with kids playing soccer, baseball, and soft European basketball. A great way to showcase stereotypes and honor all the Spanish folk. But this year will be different… by Spanish appreciation month, I’ll make a few guarantees: (1) Sanchez has plenty of time to actually learn the language while holding a clip board on the sidelines, (2) instead of the traditional commercials most of us can’t understand, there will be a segment on Tebow’s mission trips to Peru. As much fun as it was to see Ochocinco get humiliated in Miami, I wish Hard Knocks was in NY again. The implosion is inevitable!!

So… yesssss… it’s that time! Personally (which should mean a lot considering it’s coming from last year’s CHAMP), I think this season is going to be pretty epic and full of twists and turns. There certainly appears to be a lot more parity and talent amongst the teams.  If you’re a nube, check out the rules page for all the details or ask a friend (maybe not the person who invited you, but someone you trust). Other than that, make your $25 checks out to me (cash works just as well) and keep your fingers crossed that you’ll get anything back :). If you have any special friends that you’d like to invite for consideration, we’ll review applications very quickly this year. The commentary is not always world class, but we can promise you plenty of pictures of sweaty dudes if that’s what you’re into.

The first pick sheet will be posted by the end of next week once we have the list of participants. Please email us ASAP to let us know you’re in. Buena suerte!
